Rainer Burkardt is a founding member of ADWA and represents the network in the People’s Republic of China. He is the founder and executive counsel of the law firm “Burkardt & Partner Rechtsanwälte” in Shanghai.
Introduction
Rainer Burkardt has been working and living in China since 1997. He is one of the few foreign lawyers with long-term on-site experience counseling and working in China. From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Burkardt was a member of the Board of Directors of the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. In 2009 he was appointed as Trusted Attorney of the Consulate General of Austria in Shanghai.

Michael Andreas Müller – Japan

Michael A. Mueller is a founding member of ADWA and represents the network in Japan. He is the founder and co-partner of Mueller Foreign Law Office.
Introduction
Michael A. Mueller had already lived in Japan starting at the age of 19 for almost three years. After having gained knowledge of the Japanese language, he studied law in Germany and then worked as interpreter for Japanese/German in Berlin for several years with numerous business-related stays in Japan. Starting in 2000, he practiced as a lawyer in Germany with a focus on German-Japanese legal relations. He moved together with his Japanese wife to Japan in 2006 and founded his own law firm. In January 2007 he was registered as Foreign Lawyer with the Japanese Ministry of Justice.
His clients are foremost manufacturers from German-speaking countries, but also from Japan, and include service providers and trade companies linked to the manufacturers. They range from medium-sized family businesses to listed corporations.
Mueller focusses on the entire bandwidth of legal questions regarding trade between Germany and Japan, the support of investment projects in both target countries as well as litigation.

Joachim Nowak – Korea

Joachim Nowak is a founding member of ADWA and represents the network in the Republic of Korea. He is the first ever German-licensed attorney to work in Korea, and has significantly contributed to the legal advice of the European Business in Korea, especially with regard to Austrian, German and Swiss clients.

RA Nowak hat bei der Bezirkssparkasse Überlingen am Bodensee eine Ausbildung zum Bankkaufmann absolviert, in Konstanz Rechtswissenschaften studiert und war im Anschluss am Landgericht Konstanz Rechtsreferendar. Etwa zeitgleich war er von 1989 im Ortschaftsrat und von 1990 bis 1998 Ortsvorsteher im Stadtteil Bambergen der Großen Kreisstadt Überlingen am Bodensee.
Er sammelte im Dezember 1997 erste Berufserfahrungen bei der zweitältesten Kanzlei Koreas, die ihn daraufhin einlud, als erster deutscher Rechtsanwalt in Korea zu arbeiten.

Introduction

Dr. Harald Sippel represents the ADWA network in Malaysia. He is an Austrian lawyer and works as a Senior Foreign Advisor at the law firm Aqran Vijandran in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Sippel first came to East Asia in 2004 and spent the majority of his career in the region (Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, China).
Dr. Sippel first came to East Asia in 2004 (scholarship with National Taiwan University) and has spent most of his professional careeer in East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, China). An expert in international dispute resolution (arbitration, mediation, adjudication), he has been increasingly advising companies on their investments and general business activities in Southeast Asia in recent years. This is always with a particular focus on avoiding differences from escalating and amicably settling disputes.
For several years, Dr. Sippel has been advising companies on legal and economic issues related to supply chains. In particular, he deals with legal issues in the area of compliance (including economic sanctions), ESG/sustainability and general disruptions in supply chains. Dr. Sippel is recognized as an expert on supply chain disruption in East Asia and is the editor of a book on force majeure and hardship for 17 countries in the Asia Pacific Region.

Michael Werner – Taiwan

Michael Werner represents the ADWA network in Taiwan. He works as a German lawyer in the Eiger law firm in Taipei.
Introduction
Michael Werner first travelled to Taiwan nearly 20 years ago to learn the Chinese language. He has been working as a German legal advisor in Taipei since 2003, first as an assessor, and since April 2004 as a lawyer admitted to the bar in Germany. He supports German-speaking foreign clients and acts as a lawyer of confidence for the Austrian Foreign Trade Centre.
As an experienced lawyer, Michael Werner focuses in particular on corporate support, especially handling company formations, obtaining work permits and approvals for foreign investments, advising companies on commercial and tax issues, and coordinating trademark registrations.
Michael Werner has lived in Taiwan since 2002 and has been working there as a German lawyer since 2004. He is one of a handful of German lawyers in the region with such diverse and long-standing advisory experience in Taiwan.
In addition, Michael Werner is active in energy and environmental affairs and participated in the initiative to establish the Wind Energy Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan.
